The RisingTide Systems Unified Storage OS is designed to provide enterprise-class storage, including VMware® vSphere™ 5 certification.
Thrive. The proliferation of servers and accelerated influx of data drives rapid changes in today's IT environments. RTS storage systems and software can substantially reduce the complexity and cost of data storage, and offer inexpensive solutions to current storage management headaches, such as dynamic incremental growth, disaster recovery, automatic snapshots and hierarchical storage management. Consolidating data in RTS storage results in much higher scalability, flexibility, availability and manageability than other storage options.
RTS OS
SAN - Unified Target
The RTS Unified Target supports all common storage fabrics, incl. iSCSI, Fibre Channel, FCoE and InfiniBand, and provides advanced features such as VMware® VAAI and Windows® ODX. A version of LIO has become the Linux block storage standard.
NAS
High-performance file storage with NFS3/4 and CIFS (SMB2), incl. CTDB support.
Performance and Scalability
Architected for high performance and virtually unlimited scalability. Line-rate throughput on 40 GbE, 16 Gb/s Fibre Channel and 56 Gb/s FDR InfiniBand networks in native and virtualized environments.
Compatibility and Resiliency
Best-in-class compatibility and resiliency at lowest TCO by leveraging years of experience with hundreds of thousands of open-source installations.
Manageability
Simple installation and management with a powerful and easy CLI, API and library.
RTS OS
Unified Storage
RTS OS is the unified storage operating system from RisingTide Systems. RTS OS integrates high-performance SAN storage based on the LIO Unified Target with NAS storage based on NFS3/4, CIFS (SMB2). It also enables full VMware® vSphere™ 5 certification.
Storage Area Network (SAN). The LIO Unified Target supports all common SAN storage fabrics, incl. 1–100 GbE iSCSI, 8/16 Gb/s Fibre Channel, FCoE and 40 Gb/s QDR and 56 Gb/s FDR InfiniBand/SRP, provides advanced high-end array features such as VMware® vSphere™ APIs for Array Integration (VAAI) and Offloaded Data Transfer (ODX) in the Microsoft Windows® 8 operating system and Windows® Server 2012 operating system, and allows virtually unlimited scaling of storage resources (LUNs per target, file and LUN sizes, etc.). Versions of the LIO Unified Target have have been adopted in Linux as its block storage standard (from Linux kernel version 2.6.38) and used in BSD Unix™ based storage systems.
Network Attached Storage (NAS). The NAS components of RTS OS include NFS3/4, CIFS (SMB2), FTP, HTTP, WebDAV and RSYNC (with delta functionality). Samba CTDB, the session-state safe high-end clustering extension for CIFS, is also included. Advanced components comprise distributed network storage based on Ceph and Rados (Reliable Autonomic Distributed Object Storage).
High Availability
HA Ready. RTS OS integrates all components that are necessary to setup highly available NAS and SAN cluster storage and multi-head storage arrays on shared RAID backends.
Monitoring
Nagios (NRPE). RTS OS has full integration of Nagios with plugins for monitoring all major array components.
Snapshots
Fast ROW Snapshots. RTS OS includes an innovative high-performance ROW (redirect-on-write) snapshot engine that functions reliably on commodity hardware platforms. The engine supports a virtually unlimited amount of snapshots with minimal performance degradation as the number of snapshots increases. Thin provisioning is supported both on volumes and the number of snapshots, as both can dynamically grow without pre-configured limits.
Smart Archiving
HSM. RTS OS storage integrates an advanced hierarchical storage management system for cost-efficient dynamic archiving of snapshots and long-tail content.
Subscriptions
Pricing. RTS OS subscriptions are available in the US for an introductory price of $950.00 per node per year. Upon request, RTS can also provide dedicated support packages and/or customized SLAs. Please contact RTS Sales for sales quotes, etc.
iSCSI Initiator
Core-iSCSI. The RTS Core-iSCSI Initiator allows end-to-end storage solutions that fully utilize the advanced high-performance feature set of the LIO Unified Target.

High Performance and Scalability
Breakthrough Performance
Designed for performance. RTS storage has been architected for uncompromising performance. RTS OS delivers line-rate throughput on 10/40 GbE, 8/16 GBFC and 40/56 Gb/s InfiniBand fabrics in both native and virtualized environments, and symmetrically scales up to hundreds of storage nodes.
2009 - Native. The LIO Unified Target iSCSI module delivered more than 40 GbE throughput on commodity x86 hardware with four non-accelerated 10 GbE ports.
2010 - Line-speed in KVM. The LIO Unified Target delivered 10 GbE and 8 GBFC line-rate throughput from single KVM and Xen VMs to a single LUN (i.e. no aggregation across multiple VMs/LUNs).
2012 - Bare-metal speed in KVM. The LIO Unified Target delivers >95% bare-metal throughput from a single KVM virtual machine to a single LUN. This scales up across multiple VMs and LUNs.
Apple Macintosh
RTS storage used on the Apple Macintosh for commercial movie editing.
Proven Compatibility and Resiliency
Open-Source Software
Hardened interoperability. A version of the LIO Unified Target has been adopted as the standard storage target in Linux. LIO is shipping with all major Linux distributions (CentOS, Fedora, RHEL, SLES, Ubuntu, etc.), and it is in production on numerous storage controllers, working with pretty much all operating systems.
High velocity. RTS' extensive expertise in open-source storage software, with hundreds of thousands of deployments, a vivid open-source community and a rapidly growing ecosystem, has laid the intellectual ground work for its commercial software products - assuring best-of-breed technology, compatibility and resiliency at the lowest TCO. The result is a mature, robust, highly compatible and proven commercial product.
