Linux 3.1 is released with the RTS iSCSI Target included as the new standard for iSCSI SAN connectivity, and RTS finds itself again among the top 10 most active employers contributing to Linux.

The RTS team joins Sam Johnston, Sam Ramji, Simon Wardley and John Mark Walker to cofound the Open Cloud Initiative (OCI), a non-profit organisation that develops and promotes open standards for cloud computing.

RTS joins the Open Virtualization Alliance (OVA), initiated by IBM and Intel, as one of 65 new members. The OVA is a consortium that is committed to fostering the adoption of open virtualization technologies, including Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM).

RTS sponsors the 10^th HLRS/hww Workshop on Scalable Global Parallel File Systems: "Autonomous Storage Systems," at the High-Performance Computing Center Stuttgart (HLRS) in Germany from 2 to 4 May.

Visit us at CeBIT in Hanover, Germany, from 2 to 6 March, in hall 2. RTS provides the storage backend for the German Cloud, which is an initiative of Equinix and the Linux Solutions Group (LiSoG), announced on CeBIT 2011.

The RTS Unified Target is going "upstream" into Linux with kernel version 2.6.38, becoming the new SAN standard in Linux. Various fabric modules (iSCSI, Fibre Channel, FCoE, InfiniBand, etc.) follow with subsequent Linux kernel releases.

The updated, comprehensive linux-iscsi.org Wiki is online. It contains all information and pointers related to the single-node LIO Target, the Core-iSCSI Initiator, High-Availability Storage (Network RAID1), RTSadmin, and RTS Director.

We released backports for the main shipping commercial Linux distributions. Our backports tree supports all unmodified stable Linux kernels from 2.6.18 and later, which are shipping with RHEL6, OpenSuse 11, and Ubuntu Lucid Lynx. The backports tree is available along with the tip of tree via the download section on the right sidebar.

RTS released full virtual LSI MegaRAID emulation from KVM hosts accessible to KVM guests. Providing a virtual LSI MegaRAID SAS 8708EM2 device allows unmodified guests operating systems (such as Windows or Linux) to transparently access local or remote RTS SAN LUNs via their standard LSI drivers. RTS achieved an unprecedented sustained 2200 MB/s throughput for such virtualized LSI devices (local VM to VM, no IOV required), thereby significantly increasing location-transparency and the elasticity of KVM based RTS SAN clouds.

Cisco integrates its FCoE target as a fabric module into the comprehensive RTS Unified SAN storage engine.

QNAP relaunches its lineup of storage appliances "powered by" RTS Unified SAN storage software, starting with the TS-659 Pro. RTS sets the QNAP TS-659 Pro apart from other IP SANs in performance and features.

The German city of Schwäbisch-Hall uses RTS IP storage for its highly available electronic city archive, which carefully preserves documents that are considerably older than a millenium.
